Artist’s Statement & Bio

Nicolette Toussaint is a painterly realist who works in oils, watercolor and drawing media.

A Colorado native, Toussaint’s frequent subjects include wildlife, animals, and Rocky Mountain scenes. She teaches drawing and painting classes in various locations in Colorado, including plein aire workshops in the summer and watercolor classes at Colorado Mountain College.

Her work has been exhibited in numerous shows at Carbondale’s Launchpad, the Main Street Gallery and the Aspen Chapel Gallery, among other places.

She won the Meininger Prize at the 2017 Rockies West National Watercolor Exhibition for the “Apache Girl and Puppy” watercolor above, and she has had several one-woman shows at Colorado Mountain College and the Bookcliffs Center for the Arts. As of 2022, she has been elected to signature membership in the Western Colorado Watercolor Society.

Education

Toussaint holds a Masters degree from Chicago’s Illinois Institute of Design and graduated from CU Boulder with Bachelor’s Degrees in English and Journalism. A Colorado native, Nicolette lives in Carbondale, and in addition to painting, writes monthly columns for the Sopris Sun and the Post Independent newspapers.
